Douglas A. Brook is Visiting Professor of the Practice in the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University. He is also professor emeritus at the Naval Postgraduate School, where he had served as professor, dean of the Graduate School of Business and Public Policy, and director of the Center for Defense Management Research. From 2007 to 2009, Brook served first as Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Financial Management & Comptroller) and later as Acting Undersecretary of Defense (Comptroller) and Chief Financial Offcer.

Framing a Public Management Research Agenda

The IBM Center for The Business of Government hosted a forum in November 2009 to examine the Obama Administration’s themes for a high-performing government and to frame a public management research agenda.

Participants included nearly 50 of the nation’s top public management researchers, scholars, and distinguished practitioners.  The forum was an effort to help bridge the gap between research and practice, and to collectively develop a research agenda that would help government executives move things forward.
